Did you know LinkedIn offers users the ability to download a resume version of their LinkedIn profile? Did you know it’s actually a decent resume?
Here’s an example of a resume downloaded from LinkedIn:
How to Download a Resume from LinkedIn
While your LinkedIn resume isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution for your job search, this little-known secret from LinkedIn can come in handy when you’re in a pinch. Download your resume from LinkedIn using these steps:
Step 1: Click the image of your profile picture in the upper right of the header (or to the left of your screen) to return to your profile. You can only download your resume directly from your profile.
Step 2: Click the white “More” button below your job title. This will prompt a dropdown menu with the options “Share Profile” and “Save to PDF”.
Step 3: Select “Save to PDF” from the dropdown menu to download a PDF version of your resume. A pop-up or download dialogue of some kind will appear on the lower part of your screen depending on your browser and operating system. Click on that pop-up or go to your “Downloads” folder to open the document.
Note: If you don’t see a pop-up and nothing is downloaded, make sure pop-ups are not blocked in your browser settings.
Why Download Your Resume from LinkedIn?
When can this feature come in handy? For starters, if you need a last-minute resume for an unexpected job interview (and you’ve kept your LinkedIn profile up-to-date), your LinkedIn resume can serve as a temporary resume–emphasis on temporary. You shouldn’t rely on your LinkedIn resume when applying for jobs.
The best use of the LinkedIn resume is as a starting point, or framework, for your professional resume. When used as a master resume alongside resume builders or resume templates, your LinkedIn resume can be a huge source of information to help build out your professional resume.
